A Bit About Leala

After Graduating from University Leala worked as a Teacher in several schools responsible for the

teaching and learning of children and young people between the ages of four to eighteen. This
enabled Leala to develop many insights, including an in depth understanding of the developmental,
emotional, social and educational issues of Children and Young People – providing her with a secure
foundation facilitating Children and Young People with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
This was furthered when Leala returned to University to complete her Postgraduate qualifications in
Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Leala coupled her acquired skills and experiences to manage a children’s counselling service within a
school setting. Supporting Children, Young People and their family’s with presenting challenges,
providing a range of therapeutic interventions including: play therapy, talking therapies,
mindfulness, group work and psychoeducation. Leala also provides training to Teacher’s facilitating
their awareness covering a variety of themes including attachment, adverse childhood experiences
and trauma informed practice. Leala continues to provide clinical supervision for a number of
teachers and school counsellors, continuing to enhance their professional practice and facilitate
their understanding of Children and Young People encountering difficulties with their Mental Health
Leala works passionately within the field of children and young people’s wellbeing. Her leap from
teacher to counsellor was fuelled by experiences of young people thriving when barriers from
mental health were removed. Leala experienced first-hand how positive attachments to key figures
can impact massively on young people and how this permeates into their learning and ability to fulfil
their potential in all aspects of their life. Through her experiences she learned how strengthening
family relationships and enhancing communication between them can be pivotal in the wellbeing of
the whole family. She believes that supporting people in a non-judgemental, empathetic manner
and has witnessed how this enables them to share the challenges they encounter without feeling
embarrassed or ashamed.

Parallel to working with children, Leala has continued to work therapeutically with adults within a GP
setting and through her own private practice. Leala uses her integrative skill set to work with each
individual client’s needs, providing a safe space where they are able to begin to develop an
understanding of their challenges and working together to find resolve and a sense of peace.
